A Celebration of Life Gathering for Doris Gillette 88, of rural Fostoria will be held Monday, February 6, 2017 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Milford. Doris Gillette died at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 4, 2017. She was born at Des Moines on March 24, 1928 to Don and Leora Morningstar. She graduated from North High School, attended Drake University and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Iowa State University. Doris married William Riley Gillette in 1949 and they farmed by Fostoria until retirement and then spent several winters in the Florida Keys. She was active in the community as a five year 4-H leader, served on the Lakes Art Center and Spencer Area Art Boards, the ISU Home Economics Association and American Association of University Women. In her later years, Doris enjoyed doing her yard work, feeding the birds and watching her kitties. She also enjoyed Friday lunch with the domino girls and bridge games at the Senior Center. But the greatest joy in her life was the love and companionship of her husband and children. Survivors include her three children, Corinne (Steve) Peterson, Michael (Sheri) Gillette and Charles (Digger) Gillette; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; one sister and a longtime friend, Winnie Ravenscroft. Preceding her in death were her husband of fifty years; her parents and one brother.
