Obituary of Ruth Lindsey
A funeral service for Ruth Lindsey, 88 of Arnolds Park, IA will be 10:30 A.M. Friday, March 10. 2017 at Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. Visitaition will be at the Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford Thursday, March 9, 2017 after 5:00 p.m. with the family present from 5 to 7 p.m. Burial will be at Spirit Lake Memorial Gardens.
Ruth Elaine Lindsey was born on August 25, 1928 in Ocheyedan, Iowa to John Leslie and Flora Mae (Williams) Somers. She grew up in a large family of twelve brothers and sisters in the Greater Lakes Region of Iowa. Ruth graduated from Arnolds Park High School in 1947, where she met her future husband, Herbert Lindsey. They were married on December 22, 1951 at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Arnolds Park. Soon afterwards, they moved to Rantoule, Illinois where Herbert served in the United States Air Force. Upon his discharge, they returned to Arnolds Park where they remained to work and raise their two sons, Steven and Craig.
Ruth lived and devoted her life to raising her family, helping others in need and serving God through her church. During her life she worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, Arnolds Park High School kitchen and finally at Dinner Date serving seniors hot meals. Ruth was a kind, loving and generous woman who could never say no to anyone in need. Her favorite pastimes were cooking, reading, solving puzzles, word searches and watching TV. In between all that, she always found time to babysit and shuttle around her granddaughters to various after school activities and in her final years, babysitting her many great-grandchildren.
Ruth passed away March 5, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at eighty- eight years of age.
Mrs. Ruth Lindsey is survived by her two sons, Steven (Linda) Lindsey and Craig (Karla) Lindsey; her four granddaughters, Michele (Matthew) Andrade, Kolbie (Jamie) Manwarren, Erin (Kenneth) Etheridge and Morgan (Barrett) Dodd; thirteen great-grandchildren, Micah and Michaela Andrade, Alexa, Adelyn, Kameron and Ainsley Etheridge, Chandler, Khloie and Grayson Manwarren, Mercedes, Marcus, Maddox and Mckenzie Dodd. She is also survived by one sister, Shirley Vukson and two brothers, Glen Somers and Marvin Somers and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceding her in death are her parents; her husband, Herbert; siblings, Maxine Mogek, Alma Cooley, Geraldine Urich, Dolores Johnson, Wayne Somers, Lovina Hair, Harley Somers, Mildred Argeri and Merrill Somers.
