Obituary of Helen Schroeder
A funeral service for Helen Schroeder, age 94, of Milford, will be held Tuesday, May 30, 2017 at 11:00 AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Cemetery in Spirit Lake. A visitation will begin one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed to St John's Lutheran Church in May City, Iowa or Hospice in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
Helen Elizabeth Welker, daughter of Goldie Gladys Foster and George Madison Welker, was born December 1, 1922 in Osceola County, near Harris, Iowa. Helen graduated from Excelsior High School in 1940 and attended Estherville Junior College. Helen worked as a bookkeeper for USO in Bremerton, Washington during World War II for two years.
On February 14, 1943, Helen was united in marriage to Wayne Otto Schroeder in Bremerton, Washington. The couple moved back to Iowa to farm during war times near May City, Iowa in 1945 and later moved to the family farm down the road where they raised their three daughters.
She was a member of the St. John's Lutheran Church in May City, Iowa. Helen loved vegetable gardening, playing cards, especially "500" and "Rook". She enjoyed couples card club and was a member of the ladies aid and participated actively in farming with Wayne. Helen also loved music, polkas and dancing.
On May 24, 2017, Helen passed away at Hawkeye Care Center in Milford, Iowa at ninety-four years of age with her daughters and their spouses present.
Helen is survived by her daughters, Teri Ann Dingel (Douglas), Judy Elizabeth Ringler Mountain (Thomas) and Mary Jo Corcoran (Thomas). She is also survived by her seven grandchildren, Benjamin Dingel (Angela) and great grandchildren Ellie and Noah Dingel, Molly Dingel (James Rechs) and great grandchildren Samuel and Aden Dingel-Rechs, Kara Elizabeth Schulz (Scott) and great grandchildren Branden, Zackary, Andrew and Jacob; Richard Wayne Ringler (Jessica) and great grandchildren Peyton, Harper and Ryker Wayne Ringler, Michael Eckard (Jodie) and great grandchildren Jayden and CeCe, Adam Eckard (Autumn Mankle) and great grandchildren Jaxson and Aspen, Deidre Schneider (Kurt) and great grandchildren Steven and Matthew.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Goldie and George Welker; her spouse of seventy-three years, Wayne.
She was very much loved and will be missed, "You Bet cha!"
