Funeral services for Chester Winslow, 95, of Milford will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 3, 2017 at the Union Memorial Church in Milford. Visitation will begin at the funeral home Friday, June 2, 2017 after 5 p.m. with the family present Friday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. Chester Ross Winslow Jr., the son of Elsie (Dodge) and Chester Ross Winslow, Sr., was born April 15, 1922 on a farm west of Terril, Iowa. On September 30, 1942, Chester was united in marriage to Leona Mae Moyer in Terril, Iowa. The family made their home and farmed southwest of Terril. Chester milked dairy cows for a living. It left little time for hobbies except for one. Chester and Leona were avid square-dancers. They traveled to many states including Hawaii and also trips to Mexico and Canada to dance a tip. Chester could always find a friend no matter where they were. His gift to gab served him well. When the cows left home a travel trailer took their place. For 21 years, they spent winters in south Texas enjoying the warm weather and meeting new friends. Only health issues were able stop their trips. Chester and Leona moved to the town of Milford in 2001. Chester and Leona raised five children. Each was taught the value of hard work and shows in their successes in life. He is remembered for his enjoyment of horses. Chester started his first tractor by pulling it with a horse. He shared his horse passion with his children and grandson. Many family stories involve horses. Chester could do almost anything. Fix, repair, or build; he could do it all. He helped many people complete their projects. Chester passed away Monday, May 29, 2017 at Hawkeye Care Center in Milford at ninety-five years of age. Chester survived by his wife, Leona of 74 plus years. His children: Les and his wife Diane of Sacramento, CA; Jon of Milford, IA; Carol and her husband, Marvin Feldhacker of Houston, TX; Jolene and her husband, Lee Fransdal of Lakeville, MN. Four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter. Sisters, Waneta Clague of Milford, IA and Jane Brayfield of Joplin, MO; brother, Ernest Winslow, of Lamar, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester Ross Senior and Elsie (Dodge) Winslow; sisters, Eva Mae Winslow, and Viola Winslow VanBebber; his son Kenneth Duane Winslow; daughter-in-law Bobby Jo Winslow.
