A Celebration of Life Gathering with food and fellowship for Bob Mehan, age 66, of Milford, will be held Friday, September 8, 2017 from 5:00-7:00 pm at St. Joseph Parish Hall in Milford, followed by a scripture service at 7 pm.
Bob Mehan, 66, of Milford, Iowa, gained his wings for his flight to heaven when he passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 5, 2017 in the arms of his daughter at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Bob was born in Sibley, Iowa to Bill and Elaine (Brueggeman) Mehan on January 13, 1951. Bob grew up on a farm outside Terril and graduated from Terril High School in 1969. He then went on to graduate with a business degree from Upper Iowa University in Fayette, Iowa. He worked in the accounting department for McDonald's in Chicago, but his love for the simple, slow paced life brought him back home to Iowa a year later. Shortly after moving back he married Luann Cookman on August 10, 1974 in Clear Lake, Iowa where they made their home. Together they had two children, Janette Marie in 1977 and Jared Robert in 1982.
In 1980, he and Luann moved their family to Milford when he accepted a position at Stylecraft (Klaussner) Furniture Industries as the Scheduling Manager in the office. He went on to work there until its doors were closed in 2011. On the side, Bob mowed lawns around the lakes area for many years and he continued this even after retirement.
Bob enjoyed shopping for the latest bargains particularly groceries, gardening, cooking new and unique recipes as well as old ones, snowmobiling, fishing, being outdoors, telling funny and sometimes inappropriate jokes, watching movies, learning about history, keeping up on the latest weather, news, or politics, washing his Chevy, hosting family gatherings, bragging about his grandchildren, cheering for his Minnesota Twins, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Dallas Cowboys, and of course, listening to Bruce Springsteen.
Bob was a quiet man with a big heart and a gentle soul, but if you could get him talking he would talk for hours. He especially liked to talk about his children, Janette and Jared, and his grandchildren, Grady, Luke, and London. These were truly the greatest joys in Bob's life.
He is survived by his children Janette (Andy) Krueger of Lee's Summit, Missouri and Jared Mehan of Milford, Iowa; three grandchildren Grady, Luke, and London Krueger; his mother Elaine Mehan of Milford; three sisters Barb (Bob) Kollasch of Terril, Nancy (Keith) Wurtz of Milford, Linda (Roger) Ruble of Milford; a brother Kenny (Chas) Mehan of Terril as well as many nieces and nephews; special neighbors Justin and Jill Baker; and friends.
Bob was preceded in death by his grandparents, his father, Bill Mehan, and a niece, Angie McGinness.
