Obituary of Pauline Carlson

Services for Pauline Carlson, age 93, of Crystal Lake, Illinois and formerly of Spirit Lake will be 10:30 am, Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Interment will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Pauline Carlson was born on March 6th, 1920 in Worthington, MN. Before she was school age her parents, Jay and Nina Hunter, moved their family to Spirit Lake. After graduating from the Spirit Lake High School she worked fifteen years as a deputy county auditor in the Dickinson County Court House. When Pauline was 20 years old she accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior during an evangelism meeting at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. She regularly attended this church and later the Faith Evangelical Free Church. Pauline was married to Clifford Carlson on March 8th, 1952 in the Christian Missionary Alliance Church. They settled in a home they built in Spirit Lake near her parents' home. She greatly enjoyed being a wife, mother and homemaker. She also enjoyed reading, quilting, and all sorts of crafts and needlework. She loved serving her Lord by teaching in Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, Christian Women's Club and nursing home Bible studies. She lived in Spirit Lake until moving to Crystal Lake, Illinois in January 2005 to be close to her daughters and families. Pauline passed into the presence of her Lord and Savior on August 21st, 2013 at the JourneyCare Hospice Center in Barrington, Illinois. She is survived by daughters Mary Smith and her husband Scott, and Kathy Delicath; grandchildren Jeff Smith and his wife Renee, Ryan Smith and his wife Audrey, Rachel Delicath, Kelly Houghtaling and her husband Blake, and Rebekah Delicath; great-granddaughter Mallory. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Clifford Carlson.
