Obituary of Esther Johnson
Funeral Services for Esther Norma Johnson (Langfeldt) of Spirit Lake, IA will be held Monday, October 30,2017 at 11:00 am at United Methodist Church of Spirit Lake. Visitation will be held 1 hour prior to services. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery. Esther died at Hawkeye Care center on October 26, 2017.
Esther, the daughter of Hugo and Dora (Anders) Langfeldt was born December 12, 1919 in Jackson County, MN. She accepted the Lord as her Savior in May 1947 and was a member of the United Methodist Church of Spirit Lake. On September 8, 1937 she was united in marriage to Enoch Johnson in Lake Park, IA. As a couple, they spent over 50 years living in different areas of IA and MN. Enoch passed away on February 14, 1992 in Estherville, IA. Esther remained in Estherville until 1994 when she moved to Spirit Lake.
Esther received a degree as a certified dietetic aide in 1962. She worked at the Douglas County Hospital in Alexandria, MN for 28 years before returning to IA in 1979. She spent 10 years cooking at Estherville's Dinner Date. In addition to being a great cook, she enjoyed playing cards, bingo and kept her mind sharp with daily crosswords. She also enjoyed and was extremely good at Scrabble. She played her final game of Scrabble against 3 of her grandchildren and, of course, she won. Esther had a quick wit, great sense of humor, a kind warm heart and was the best grandma a kid could have.
Left to cherish her memory are a son, Eston Johnson, Thompson, IA and daughter, Eunice Stowe, Waite Park, MN, sister Arlene (Harvey) Svenby, Spirit Lake, IA, grandchildren, Mitchell (Connie) Johnson, South Carolina, Dan (Barb) Johnson, California, Tony (Becky) Johnson, FL, Carolyn (Scott ) Flo, IA, Mike (Sandy) Stowe, MN, Philip (Peggy) Stowe, MN, Janet (Tom) Baker, MN and Nancy Popham, MN, 22 Great Grandchildren, 5 Great Great Grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters Erna Langfeldt, Ella Mae Cooper, Alice Brokaw, brothers Elmo Langfeldt, Eldo Langfeldt, daughter-in-law Linda Johnson and grandson Daniel Stowe.
