Obituary of Theresa Fitchett
A memorial service for Theresa Fitchett, 70, of Milford will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 7, 2017 at the Harbor Of Joy Lutheran Church in Milford. Visitation will take place in Milford Tuesday morning at church one hour before the service.
Theresa passed away peacefully Thursday, Nov. 2, 2017 at Lakes Regional Hospital, in Spirit Lake, surrounded by her loving family.
Theresa Marlene Fitchett was born May 2, 1947 to Jack and Dorothy Childs in Norfolk, VA. She graduated from Burkburnett High School in Wichita Falls, TX in 1967. On June 1, 1967 she married Wayne Fitchett in Wichita Falls, TX.
The couple resided in various cities as Wayne served his country in the United States Air Force. In 1973, the couple moved to Milford. Theresa and Wayne were happily married for 50 plus years, having celebrated that milestone in June of this year.
Theresa was the recipient of a heart transplant on Feb. 14, 1997 which allowed her to thrive, love and enjoy her family for another 20 years. The donor family is forever in our hearts and will always be a part of our family.
Theresa loved to crochet and spent countless hours making afghans, scarves,hats and mittens for others. She had a special love for her dog, precious Pepper. She loved spending time with her family, had a special love for her grandchildren and a special connection to her little cupcake, Emma, in Virginia.
Theresa worked as a nursing assistant for 16 years taking care of those in need. She was a beloved wife, cherished mother and friend to many.
Theresa is survived by her husband Wayne Fitchett, of Milford; daughter, Terina (Mike) Nowlin of Fort Worth, TX; son, Steven Fitchett of Spencer; 7 grandchildren: Darrin Warren, Kayci Nowlin, Tyler Nowlin, Logan (Sammie) Fitchett, Alyssa Becker, Aiden Engelkes and Ashleigh Engelkes; honorary granddaughter, Rani Clerc; two sisters, Patty Marchand of Virginia Beach, VA and Sharon Mejia, of Terrell TX; two brothers, Jack Childs, Jr. of Grand Prairie, TX and Kenneth Hamilton, Sr., of Florida; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was proceeded in death by her parents and her mother and father-in-law Raymond and Ruth Fitchett, of Milford, and a granddaughter Kimberly Fitchett.
Theresa's final wish was that we pass along these words to you. "Remember me with joy and happiness for that is how I remember you all. And if you must remember me with sorrow and sadness then please don't remember me at all."
