Obituary of Fritz Chaplin

A memorial gathering for Fritz Chaplin, age 88, of Arnolds Park, will be held Saturday, November 11, 2017 from 4:00-7:00 PM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford. Fredric (Fritz) Dean Chaplin, the son of Bonnie and Delia (Thies) Chaplin, was born April 28, 1929 in Estherville, Iowa. He graduated from Arnolds Park High School and attended Buena Vista College and Iowa Lakes College. Fritz served his country in the United States Army serving most of his time in Japan under General Douglas MacArthur's occupational forces. He was later honorably discharged. He spent most of his life in the lakes area where he farmed and raised turkeys. After retiring in 1996, Fritz spent many happy times in Santa Barbara, California and traveled extensively. Fritz passed away November 9, 2017 at Accura Healthcare in Milford, Iowa at eighty-eight years of age. He was preceded in death by his mother, Delia; father, Bonnie; and son, Tom. He is survived by his wife, Donna Chaplin of Arnolds Park; two daughters, Lisa (Gordon) Munns of Stacy, Minnesota and Kim (Cleve) Smith of Scottsdale, Arizona; four grandchildren. He will be remembered for his many friendships, quick wit and keen memory.
