Obituary of Marion A. Flint

Mr. Marion A. Flint, 94, of Lake Park passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013 at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake. Services will be 1:30 pm Thursday, September 5, 2013 at United Methodist Church in Lake Park. Visitation will begin after 3 pm Wednesday, September 4, 2013 with the family present from 5-7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Lake Park. Interment will be at Westport Township Cemetery near Everly. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in memory of Marion. Marion A. Flint was born on a farm in Westport Township, Dickinson County, Iowa, on a farm purchased by his grandfather in 1888. Marion was educated at Westport Center School and Excelsior, graduating in 1936. In the late 30's he worked as an electrician, wiring homes and building ahead of the REA as it came through. Marion married his sweetheart, Lola Belle in 1940 and have been married for 72 years. They lived on the family farm until 1980, retiring to their lakeshore home in Lake Park. He continued to make many trips out to the farm to help with projects, up until as late as three weeks ago. Marion enjoyed working with neighbors on projects, sharing time and machinery, baling hay, harvesting and planting. They were special times and made for pleasant memories. He served on the ASCS Township Committee and served as President of the Westport School Board. Marion was a life-long member of the Westport and Excelsior Methodist Church. He served as a Sunday school teacher, church trustee, board member and a mentor of Confirmation students. He liked to stay busy working beside other church members refinishing, painting and repairing the church's needs. Marion was a thirty-three year member of the Dickinson County Mutual Ins. Assn., where he served as President and Vice President of the organization. He was also a member of the Lake Park Lions Club. Family member were special to him, he enjoyed being with them and when they were young taking them on short trips. He loved to make things for the great grandkids from play houses made from hog feeders to blackboards, machine sheds and barns. Preceding him in death were his parents Lester Flint and Maggie Mae Wright Flint Batcchler and a sister, Jessie Dyke. He is survived by his wife, Lola Belle Yager Flint; daughter, Anita Early (Steve) of Spirit Lake; son, Merlin (Pat) Flint of Glendale AZ.; grandchildren Shari Weideman (Jim), Bill Heikens (Carmen), Tim Heikens (Kristin), Amiee Flint, Toni Flint, and Cory Flint; great-grandchildren Ashley Heikens (special friend Joe Geyerman), Lacey Heikens (Trevor Johnson fiancée), Shayla Early (Mike Marchesi, fiancé), Casey Early, Dakota Flint, Maddisan Flint, Lawson Flint, Zack Heikens, McKinzie Heikens, Alex Heikens, Jaxson Heikens.
