Obituary of Eleanore Currier
Eleanore Delina Currier, 83, of Spencer, Iowa passed away the night of Wednesday, March 28, 2018 at St. Luke Nursing Home after spending the evening with family at her side.
A memorial service will be held in her honor at Foundations Church in Spencer on Wednesday, April 4 at 10 a.m.
Born May 21, 1934 in Jay, Maine to Wilfred and Nellie Cormier, she was the youngest of nine children and loved her time living on the farm.
With just an eighth grade education, she became a wiring specialist in the engineering department of Hewlett Packard, helping to create the first prototype for the original HP defibrillator. Years later, she attained her GED and spent a year in college studying accounting.
Later in life she married Ed Currier, and they made their home in Stratford Hollow,, New Hampshire. Ed had three grown children. She has one daughter, Rosemary Shaughnessy, and four grandsons: Jeremy, Daniel, Timothy and Nathan Shaughnessy as well as seven great grandkids.
She loved sewing, crocheting, ceramics and painting. At one time she was affectionately known as "The Teddy Bear Lady." She also enjoyed cooking and baking, specializing in chicken soup.
She appreciated going to the pool at the Spencer Family YMCA where the water thoroughly helped with her polio and other ailments. In the 1990s she started the post-polio survivors group in the Spencer area and helped many with this condition at that time.
She was fiercely patriotic and loved her lord and savior Jesus Christ. She knew He is the way the truth and the light.
Left to cherish her memories are: Patrick and Rosemary Shaughnessy, of Greenville, Iowa; Jeremy and Kristin Shaughnessy and their children Grace, Kellan and Taylor, of Fountain, Colorado; Daniel and Jenna Shaughnessy and their children Lexi, Regan, Boston and Maddy, of Spencer; Timothy Shaughnessy and Robin Jerousek and her children Kam, Kirstyn and Kendra, of Spencer; and Nathan Shaughnessy, of Spencer.
