Wayne Krogman, the son of Norbert and Annabell (King) Krogman, was born November 4, 1946 in Sibley, Iowa. After graduating from Sibley High School, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1966 and served until he was honorably discharged in 1968. During his tour of duty in Vietnam, he would constantly ask for goodie care packages from his mom and aunts, making sure they packed the box full of Gramma Kings chocolate chip cookies. His mom thought he must be really putting on weight with all those sweets. When he came home, she was shocked to see he only weighed about 145 lbs. He confessed that he took a couple for himself, shared cookies with his buddies, but always made sure there was plenty left in the box he put in the center of the road for the little kids to come running and enjoy.
On May 31, 1969, Wayne was united in marriage to Arlene (Roetman) Krogman in Sibley. They family moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa in 1974.
Wayne was a man who loved to spend time outdoors. He worked for many years doing road construction, his specialty being a roller operator. When he wasn't working he loved spending time hunting or fishing. He has many of his trophies hanging on the wall to prove his love of the sport. His greatest joy was teaching his children and grandchildren how to be good stewards of the sport. When Wayne shopped, he would buy two of everything so his grandson Kyler could go with him hunting and fishing. If he could brag about his grandkids to anyone who would listen, he took the opportunity. His grandchildren are now all writing praises of their memories of grandpa.
Wayne enjoyed shopping for his wife, Arlene, car races and collecting hats of all colors with hunting, fishing or Vikings emblems. He was a devout fan of the Minnesota Vikings, many times offering advice on how to play the game. He also loved the Duke, John Wayne, as he would often recite the lines before John Wayne.
Wayne's near future plans were to move to Montana and build his and Arlene's home on their land. He had plans to go in a few weeks to get started. But God had a better plan. It's very hard to give him up through this very unfortunate situation. We are all blessed with so many happy, good memories.
Wayne passed away May 23, 2018 at seventy-one years of age.
Left behind to cherish these memories is his wife of forty-nine years; son, Douglas (Chandra) Krogman from Ames, Iowa; daughter, Amy Jacobsma (Jeff Glienke) from Fort Dodge, Iowa; son, Kelly (Jennifer) Krogman from Livingston, Montana; daughter, Lisa (James Huffman) Krogman from Spirit Lake; grandchildren, Jesse Willems (Michelle), Chelsie Bork, Justin Willems (Taylor), Dustin Bork, Jase Willems, Kyler Krogman (Taylor), Madison Krogman, Riley Davids, Emma Jacobsma, Meagan Krogman and Kailey Krogman; two great-grandchildren, Jaxon Willems and Aubriella Bekish; sister, Janell (Jim) Johnson of Cherokee, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Carol (Dave) Van Roekel from Spirit Lake and Marlene (John McAlpine) Prostrollo from Larrabee, Iowa; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
