Paul Winfield Larson was a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, but most importantly a child of God. He faithfully served the Lord at Indian Lake Baptist Church for most of his life. He was a deacon; a delegate to the Minnesota Baptist Conference; served on the board of directors for Shetek Baptist Camp and was active at Trout Lake Camp. Paul loved people and was a friend to everyone - a stranger was just a friend he had not yet met. He loved the time spent with his grandchildren and most recently watching his great-grandchildren grow.
Paul was an electrician by trade, but a farmer at heart. He enjoyed watching God's creation, whether it was from a tractor seat, in the garden, or watching animal life through his picture window overlooking Little Spirit Lake where he and Phyllis retired.
Paul was born March 4, 1929 in Worthington, Minnesota to Arthur B. and Anna H. Larson. He attended grades 1-8 in a one-room country school house, graduated from Round Lake High School, then farmed with his parents. He left home in early 1950 to travel across the US with an evangelistic team called "God's Invasion Army". In 1951 he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Senior Clerk during the Korean War. Two years later, he received an honorable discharge and returned home. His parents needed help with the farm and Paul also worked at the Ford garage in Worthington. He was later hired by Ed Nordell as an apprentice electrician. Paul was united in marriage to Phyllis Jean Bordwell on October 20, 1961. He continued working with Ed for over 20 years and then went into business for himself as a residential electrical contractor, operating Larson Electric for another 25 years.
Paul died on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his home in rural Jackson, Minnesota. He was 89 years old. Paul was preceded in death by two brothers; his parents, brother-in-law Clayton (Bud) Anderson, wife Phyllis and son-in-law Bruce Rens.
Those left to honor Paul's memory include his son Steven (Janee) Larson and their children Jonathan, Joel, Katie and Peter; daughters Dawn (Bernie) Cox and Diane Rens and her children Tyler (Nicole) Rens, Rebecca, Nicholas and Micah; his sister Adeline Anderson; his brother-in-law and sister-in-law David (Marilyn) Bordwell; two great-grandchildren June and Sawyer Rens; and many nieces and nephews.
