Obituary of Sophia I. Nachtigal

Sophia Irene Nachtigal was born January 25, 1910 in Terril, Iowa, the daughter of Anna (Schnell) and Clyde Buckles. On January 30, 1929, Sophie was united in marriage to Emil (Pat) Nachtigal. The couple made their home in Ames, Lake Park and Nevada before moving to Spirit Lake in 1942. She was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Sophie loved family and friends and enjoyed feeding anyone who was around. She always baked for her grandchildren and children. Anyone that went to Sophie's left with a smile and a full stomach. She also enjoyed sewing, canning and gardening. She loved the outdoors and always had a love for horses and fishing. Sophie passed away January 13, 2012 at the Lake Park Care Center in Lake Park, Iowa at one hundred and one years of age. She is survived by her daughter, Marge Wood; son, Ken (Connie) Nachtigal; grandchildren, Kenda (Rick) Peterson, Lisa (Scott) Miller, Janna Stevens, David (Amy) Badgley and Dee (Steve) Tolk; great-grandchildren, Max, Maddy, Lucas, Sarah, Brandi, Lynissa and Nathan; great-great-grandchildren, Jaxton, Dawson, Dakota and Emily. She was preceded in death by her husband, Emil (Pat) Nachtigal; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Nachtigal; sons-in-law, Clark Badgley and "Woody" Wood; one sister, Esther Brix; brothers, Bob Buckles and John Buckles.
