Brian Dean Peck, son of Richard & Janet (Schuknecht) Peck, was born on September 17, 1970. Brian grew up in rural Cherokee, Iowa. Brian was baptized in September 1970, at Peace Lutheran Church and confirmed in April 1985, at Trinity Lutheran Church.
Brian graduated from Washington High School in Cherokee, Iowa in 1989. He attended Kirkwood Community College and then enlisted in the United States Navy. Brian was on the USS Enterprise (CVN-65) and the USNS Indomitable (T-AGOS-7). Brian was honorably discharged in 1994 as an E4 OS3.
Brian married Kristi (Zimmer) in 1996. To this union they had two children, Cody and Kelsey.
Brian enjoyed farming, hunting, riding horses, trapping, gardening, being with family, and being around the goats. Brian had many times that he enjoyed going to the Clay County Fair (be it showing, parking cars in the north parking lot, meeting his future wife, taking his children around to see the exhibits, and having watched his children show.)
Brian was active in 4H and as a leader, served on the Dickinson County Farm Bureau Board (President for 7 years), Iowa Farm Bureau Young Farmer State Committee, and Dickinson County Cattleman Grill Team. Brian is a member of Harbor of Joy Lutheran Church.
Brian was diagnosed with Stage 4 Small Cell Follicular Lymphoma in January 2015. After many chemo treatments in Spencer, Sioux Falls, and finally Mayo in Rochester, the Lymphoma had changed into Large B Cell Lymphoma warranting Brian to have Car-T therapy in 2018. After being declared in remission in August and moving back home, he began having body aches in early September and his appointment was moved up. The news was not good. The T cells had done their job and the cancer was not in the body but in the bone.
Brian passed away September 22, 2018 at his home in Milford.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ronald & Mabelle Peck and Sylven & Gladys Schuknecht; in-laws, H Robert & Dolores Zimmer.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Kristi; their children, Cody & Kelsey; parents, Richard & Janet Peck; sister and brother-in-law, Amy & Mike Brunsting; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jim & Nancy Hartmann; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Galyn & Susan Carpentier; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, dog (Reba) and cat (Tippy).
