I think the last line of Barb's memories sums up Aunt Gladys better than any words I could type here. The giggle softly especially touched me. For a minute I could hear it
I spent part of my summers as a kid, in Terrill. I remember Barb Kraft and what a good friend you were to Maryann. It's no wonder Uncle Bud and Aunt Gladys treated you like family.
One of the highlights of my stays in Terrill, is that Aunt Gladys could make pancake batter into ANY animal that Maryann and I could think of! With a little imagination. I couldn't tell you what else she cooked while I was there, but we had animal pancakes and I didn't get those at home!
The arrangement my sisters and I sent to the service tomorrow is called Clear Blue Skies - it seemed so appropriate for the reunion finally of the 3 of them and the earthly life of flying they all were a part of. Nothing but Blue Skies, from now on, Aunt Gladys... Love ya.

I am touched with the kind, thoughtful words and wonderful memories shared here. I remember Gladys sitting with my Mom, Vonnie (Peterson, Larry's little sister) and they would be talking seriously and then laughing in the next minute. Oh, how I loved spending time with Uncle Bud and Gladys. She was the glue in their family and even as a child, I held great respect for her. I am glad my sisters and I spent time with Aunt Gladys at the Milford facility where we witnessed their care and concern for her during her difficult final years. I hope she can now clearly see what a great influence she, Uncle Bud and Maryann were to all of us in our extended McVicker family unit. I'm sure those McVicker siblings and spouses all gathered together to welcome her as she shed her earthly bonds and are now eating some great food, talking, laughing, there's some good music playing and did I mention, eating? It is your turn to soar, Aunt Gladys. . . . Shari Peterson

Love the pictures, Donna and Cheri (my sis-in-law), and the tribute, Barb. I am writing as a niece from the McVicker side of her family. My mother, Rosetta (Rosie) was the oldest sister of Gladys' husband Larry (or Uncle Bud, as we all called him.) We nine surviving McVicker nieces and nephew all have great memories of times spent with Uncle Bud and Aunt Gladys on the farm. We especially remember one Christmas when we were all given look-alike pajamas. A.Gladys put big mattresses down on the floor in one upstairs bedroom, and all 11 cousins slept (or not??!!) in that room!! We had such fun swimming in the pool they installed for Maryann. Even though she could no longer walk, she was quite a swimmer!! And I remember one summer that I was lucky enough to spend a few days there BY MYSELF, and the highlight was flying in Uncle Bud's plane with him and Gladys to a flight breakfast in another town. I felt so lucky to have such exciting relatives!!
Our family, beginning with our Grandmother Lydia and her son Larry (Bud) and his 4 sisters and their families began our yearly tradition of the "McVicker Campout" close to 60 years ago now. We still meet every summer, in varying states, depending on where the host families live. A.Gladys was a very important part of the Campout, as she started keeping the scrapbook, which she would bring each year with a few more pictures added from the previous year's event. She finally passed that book on to Cheri, our new family's record keeper, who updates and brings it yearly for us to reminisce over. She liked to remind us that she was the only one at the McVicker Campout who still had the last name of McVicker.
Our saddest memories, of course, involve the years of illness for Maryann. But A. Gladys' bravery and devotion stand out in those memories. She devoted her total self to "the joy of their life." Both she and Uncle Bud would do anything for Maryann and gave her the most normal life possible in her condition. We mourn the loss of our last "McVicker", but feel joy that she is at last reunited with her great loves, Uncle Bud and Maryann.
I will be unable to attend the services because of the distance and short-staff at work, but my heart will be with her and all of you honoring her on Monday, and I wanted to pay her tribute in this way. I am sure my cousins and siblings may have other memories they wish to share also.

I am her niece from the McVicker side and Gladys was the last original McVicker...as she often reminded us. They spent a lot of time staying with my family when Maryann was in Iowa City for treatments. We, unfortunately, saw the pain Maryann endured but always kept positive because Gladys and Larry were. Such amazing, loving people!
I spent time 1 summer flagging for Uncle Bud (as we called him) - what a great experience to watch him work and have so much pride in flying. And Maryann and Gladys were always right by his side. He rigged an old car with a clicker system so Maryann could flag for him. Always together and they made it work!
We have a McVicker reunion almost every year, for 50 years or so. Always will be a McVicker gathering to reminisce, laugh and remember all of the McVickers.
I find comfort knowing they are all together again. A special lady with a giving heart is finally reunited with her family and they are laughing and traveling again.
I Love you Aunt Gladys and Rest In Peace.

I recently found Gladys (my 1st cousin, 2X removed) and her family through my research on Ancestry.com. I sent a lot of old photos of the family farm to Stacy Olson. Although I have never met the Olson/McVicker families, I certainly feel a connection to this part of my Mom's family. Here is a photo I had of Gladys from about 1940. My thoughts are with all the family.

I have great memories of both Larry and Gladys. Th they truly loved all of Maryann 's friends. They took us on great trips. I thought of her often. My daughter still has fond memories of spending time with both Larry and Gladys. Gladys was a great friend and will be missed.

Gladys McVicker, her husband Larry and their only child Maryann were a second family to me. I traveled with them, laughed, and yes, more than once cried with them. Gladys' life centered around her family. She was Larry's right hand through years of struggle while they farmed, during the ups and downs of Larry's crop spraying business that depended on good weather, light winds and the dangers of flying over the electric wires that more than once caused a crash landing. They stood side-by-side through the illness of their one beautiful little girl, but it was Gladys who cared for her physical needs, dried her tears and drove her to Iowa City, so Larry could continue working during the spraying season. Larry did what he could, but when it got too tough, he disappeared to his shop or his band. Larry was a pilot during WWII, and when he returned, they loved dancing to big band music. They were a fun loving couple, who took great joy in music. When Larry played in his own bands, Gladys would look on with love and admiration; she was very proud of her kind and handsome husband! One of his little ditties he sang between and songs was an ode to Gladys, which he taught to Maryann and me. We would roll down the windows and sing "Gladys, Gladys Is" as we traveled along the countryside. When Maryann came along, their joy was boundless. On her bedroom door was a sign "Our Little Princess". Gladys fought a hard battle beside her daughter as she struggled for years with cancer and the effects of the treatments that gradually destroyed her little body. When she died, a piece of both of them died then, too. Gladys was so much more than a 98 year old woman. She was simply an amazing person who loved big, giggled softly, danced with vigor, rarely cried and never complained. I simply loved her. Barb (Kraft) Leistad

Loved the stories she had of her farm life and crop spraying business, she was a treasure of history of the Terril area, may she rest in peace. Fly high Gladys.
