Obituary of Stella Rodenberg

A funeral service for Stella Rodenberg, 97, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 2, 2019, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin one hour prior to service time at the church. Interment will be at Silver Lake Cemetery in Lake Park. Stella Marie (Hoffman) Rodenberg died on January 27, 2019, at age 97, surrounded by her loving family. She was born March 8, 1921 in May City, IA. Daughter of William and Hermina G. (Nee Steinke) Hoffman. Stella was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith at St John's Lutheran Church in May City, IA. She graduated from Lake Park High School in 1939. Stella married Larry E. Rodenberg on October 19, 1940. Their union was blessed with two daughters, Janell and Deborah. Stella was employed for over 42 years at the Security State Bank in Lake Park Iowa, retiring in 1986. Stella was a charter member of Concordia Lutheran Church and the ladies guild. She served in various offices of the church including teaching Sunday school for many years. Stella belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Silver Lake Cemetery Society, Avenue of Flags committee, the Dickinson Co. chapter of the American Cancer Society serving as the chairman of memorial gifts. She was on the care review committee at the Lake Park Care Center, was Treasurer and Chairman of the Harris-Lake Park School board for many years. She was President of the Silver Lake precinct of the Republican Party, and was a member of the board of endowment at Dickinson Memorial Hospital. Stella is survived by her two daughters, Janell R. Benson (Ken) of Fridley, MN, and Deborah K. Mesner (Richard) of Rockwell, IA; 5 grandchildren: Brian Holland (Brenda), Kim Peterson (Mark), Kelly DeMarre, Lindsey Weatherford (Ross) and Rachael Jones (Jeff); 8 great-grandchildren: Melissa and Brittany Holland, Ashley and Abby Peterson, Jacob (Danielle) DeMarre, Matthew DeMarre, Maxton Weatherford, and Colt Jones. 1 great-great-grandchild, Andrew Thielbar. Proceeded in death by her parents, her husband Larry (1984), brothers; Harold and Marvin Hoffman, sisters: Vera McClintic, Velma Coleman and Violet Schneekloth. Stella had many nieces, nephews, godchildren, a special cousin, LeAnn Jaacks, and many other relatives and friends. Stella loved spending time with family and friends. She was so appreciative of all the gifts in her life. Her pure joy, kindness and unconditional love will be truly missed. Stella was a faithful and loving servant of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, our Good Shepherd.
