I remember Ruth so fondly from my days at Westminster. She and Ruby were such faithful members and volunteers, always cheerful, positive, welcoming, busy. The two of them enriched the life of the congregation and of the city so much and embodied what I believe the Gospel is all about - kindness, helpfulness, understanding, gentleness, and optimism. I am sad to hear of Ruth's passing, but I am so glad to have known her and Ruby. May all who loved her be comforted by sweet memories and the knowledge that her kind and gentle spirit will live on in the memories and lives of all who knew her.

I first met Ruth and Ruby in Ames, Iowa, in 1994 at the National Presbyterian Women's Gathering. I was a new member at Westminster but very soon I noticed Ruth and Ruby were active volunteers with: Feast, bus trips in MN, women's ministry, WOW leadership, publication distribution, prayer groups, visiting shut-ins, blood pressure stations, church services, Town Hall Forum, . . .making each experience to be as relevant as possible for others on The Way. Beside the church they volunteered at schools and the eye clinic. There they received several stuffed bears. Their family included many homeless cats which one day was noticed by our young grandson. Generosity was a given with them and a bear was offered to Carl. He said, "no," (and I hope thank you). In the car I asked why he didn't want a bear and he replied, "I hoped for one of the cats. . ." The cats were family! Ruth and Ruby included many of us as extended family and we will not forget them.
