Obituary of Marvin Odegaard

Marvin B. Odegaard was born to Anton Bennet and Rosina (Hesla) Odegaard on January 27, 1923 in Rembrandt, Iowa. He was the middle child with an older brother and a younger brother. When he was 13, his family moved to Ceylon, Minnesota where he later graduated from high school. He served in the Army Air Corps and was stationed in England during World War II where he met and married his first wife, May. Together they had seven children. They lived in various locations in Minnesota and Iowa. Marvin also lived in Idaho, Oregon and enjoyed many winters in Arizona. He enjoyed several occupations during his lifetime, including owning a service station, farming, trucking, dispatching and working retail in a lumber yard. He was always busy with various projects, including building and remodeling homes. He was a fun-loving man who enjoyed being around people. He met and married Helen (Besch) of Spirit Lake, Iowa on December 5, 2003. Marvin passed away at the age of 88 on February 9, 2011 at Hilltop Care Center in Spirit Lake, Iowa. Survivors include his wife Helen, his children Irene (Ray) Gold, Diane (Ken) Van Wyk, Kathy (Dave) Wickett, Mel (Shirley) Odegaard, Pam (Dennis Wilson) Jenkins, Joyce (Wayne) Beebout, Jeff (Dawn) Odegaard; his grandchildren, Wade (Heather) Comstock, Mindy Giesman, Mike Van Wyk, Marcy (Kent) Nelson, Heather (Erik) Maki, Ryan Comstock (Emilie Boesen), Jason (Heather) Odegaard, Teddy (Kris) Jenkins, Amanda (Mike) Field, Beth (Brian) Czech, Alex Beebout, Tyler (Crystal) Jenkins, Katie Beebout, Anna Odegaard, Maggie Odegaard, three step grandchildren, Rob (Tammy) Wickett, Mindy Wickett, David Wickett (Traci Schutty), 23 great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law, Deloris Odegaard, numerous nephews, nieces and friends. He is also survived by Helen's children, Bob (Carol) Besch, Bev (Denny) Sill, Mary (Paul) Romberg, her son-in-law, Dave Kollasch, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers, Arnold and Norman, his first wife - May, Helen's daughter Betty Kollasch and an infant granddaughter, Emily. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Spirit Lake, Iowa and also a member of the VFW and the American Legion. Some of his favorite memories include raising his family, enjoying the water and spending time with family and friends. Memorials may be made to Iowa Hospice.
