Obituary of Dalbert Holst
A funeral service for Dalbert Holst, 89, will be held Saturday, March 16, 2019 at 11:00 am at United Methodist Church in Harris. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am before the service.
Dalbert passed away March 6, 2019 at Accura Healthcare in Spirit Lake.
Dalbert Holst the son of Emil and Lorraine Holst was born April 7, 1929, in Spencer, Iowa. He graduated from Harris School.
After graduating, he met and married the love of his life, Elizabeth Bartels. The two moved to Newberry Springs, California in 1970 where he worked as a mail carrier. In 2007, they moved back to Iowa.
In July of 1951, Dalbert enlisted in the US Army. He served as Private First Class in the Korean War until he was Honorably Discharged in April of 1953. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Campaign Stars, the United Nations Service Medal and two Overseas Bars. Later on he became a member of the American Legion.
Dalbert was often seen doing what he loved to do, fishing. He also enjoyed being out in the garden when he got the chance. And of course, being with family was always the highlight of his day.
Dalbert was survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bartels) Holst; his 5 children, daughter Debbie Marasco of Spirit Lake, Iowa, daughter Diana Houska (Greg) of San Diego, California, daughter Lauriel Borowski (John) of Apple Valley, California, son Mike Holst (Jamie) of Las Vegas, Nevada and son Joe Holst (Jen) of Fort Collins, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Emil and Lorraine (Russ) Holst; and his sister, Gwen.
