Obituary of Denise Hemphill
A funeral service for Denise Hemphill, age 60, of Lake Park, will be held Monday, March 25, 2019 at 2:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be on Sunday, March 24th from 3:00-5:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Denise Sharon (Voss) Hemphill was born to Eugene and Sharon (Ihnen) Voss, on July 14, 1958, in Lakefield Minnesota. Denise attended grade school in Sioux Valley, Minnesota. From there she went on to Rochester Community and Technical College, where she received her RN degree in the spring of 1980. She began working as a nurse at DCMH.
In 1986, she was married to Jim Hemphill of Lake Park, Iowa. In 1991, Denise graduated from Briar Cliff College with a Bachelors Degree in Nursing and in 1996, she graduated from SDSU with her masters, becoming a ARNP. After college, she opened her own clinic in Lake Park where she practiced medicine until her death on Tuesday, March 19, 2019. She passed away peacefully at home in her sleep.
Denise enjoyed traveling, her life on the farm and especially loved nursing. She had a great heart and an enormous passion for helping people, touching the lives of hundreds. More importantly, she loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren. Denise always found time to talk, listen and she will be greatly missed by many!
Denise is survived by her husband Jim Hemphill of Lake Park; their 4 sons, Brandon (Jackie), Nicholas, Chris (girlfriend Mikelene) and Michael; grandchildren, Caleb, Averi and Mason Hemphill, Jorden Bennett; mother, Sharon Voss; brothers, Doug Voss, Darv (Cheryl) Voss, David (Patrice) Voss, Janine (Steve Havener) and Tom (Lori) Hemphill; mother-in-law, JoAnn Bakker; brothers-in-law, Troy Harms and Perry Timmer; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Denise is preceded in death by her sisters, Dawn Timmer and Diana Harms; father Eugene Voss; father-in-law, Bill Hemphill and sister-in-law, Lois Hemphill.
