Obituary of Raymond Duhn
A memorial service for Raymond "Rocky" Duhn, age 94, of Spirit Lake, will be held Monday, April 15, 2019 at 10:30AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake. Burial will be at Lakeview Gardens Cemetery in Spirit Lake. Visitation will be on Sunday, April 14th from 3:00-5:00pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Raymond (Rocky) Joseph Duhn, the son of Soren and Marie Duhn, was born December 10, 1924 in Graettinger, Iowa. He graduated in 1943 from Graettinger High School and entered the United States Army in June 1943, serving in CBI (China-Burma-India) until being honorably discharged in April 1946. He returned to farm with his father until 1949.
Raymond married Evonne Marxen on November 6, 1949. He worked various jobs until moving to Spirit Lake where he worked at Berkley & Co. for thirty-one years, retiring in January, 1990.
He entered Pearl Valley Care Center in July 2018 and passed away April 7, 2019 at Lakes Regional Healthcare at the age of ninety-four.
Raymond was a life member of VFW Post 4514 for fifty-eight years. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, attending auctions and playing cards. He did pen making and collected license plates, coins and beer cans. He cherished the time spent with family.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Evonne Duhn; six children, Rodney (Judy Schuett) Duhn, Eileen (Steve) Whitehouse, Steven (Cheryl) Duhn, Jerold Duhn, Sheryl (Guy) Petrik and Joleen (Richard) Helms; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Kane and several nieces and nephews.
Preceding him in death are his parents, Soren and Marie Duhn; four brothers, Walter, Richard, Ronald and one at birth; two sisters, Dorothy Sjeklocha and Rosalie Hoyt.
