Obituary of Wanda Dobberteen
Wanda Mae Dobberteen was born December 12, 1921 to LeRoy and Hazel Coulson. She was raised and educated in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1939. While attending school, she was well known for her musical abilities, both as a celloist and vocalist. She attended Buena Vista College, graduating in three years.
Wanda immediately began her teaching career that would last close to thirty years. Her main areas of teaching were in music and art. Wanda carried her talent of painting throughout her lifetime, painting many pictures which are treasured heirlooms among her family. She also enjoyed gardening and sewing.
On January 1, 1945 she met and married R.G. "Gus" Danielson of McMinnville, Tennessee. Together, they had a daughter, Marcia. In April of 1946, she married Thomas McCulla of Cherokee, Iowa. To this union two daughters, Linda and Anna Lea, were born. On July 8, 1957, she married Raymond Huisenga of LakeView. To this union twins, Karen and Kevin, daughter, Lisa and son "Chip" were born. On July 11, 1986, she married Arthur Dobberteen living in the Okoboji and Milford area. They enjoyed spending several winters in Florida. She enjoyed playing cards and dancing to just about any kind of music but was especially fond of the Big Band Era.
Wanda passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer at Lakes Regional Healthcare in Spirit Lake on May 8, 2011 at eighty-nine years of age.
Wanda is survived by daughters, Marcia (Bob) Miller of Lake Benton, Minnesota, Linda (Leo) Roth of Mankato, Minnesota, Annalea (Tres) Rich of Kinston, North Carolina, Karen (Dwight) Hartje of Storm Lake, Iowa, Lisa Huisenga of Richardson, Texas and a son, Charles "Chip" Huisenga of Milford, Iowa. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Gerald and Charles; her husbands and one son, Kevin.
