I remember Grant helping me learn to drive and telling me to keep the hood ornament even with the side of the road. Don't know how kids learn now with no hood ornaments. I remember Grant going to Confirmation Class with me as a 18 year old "adult" and our talks after. And I remember the sadness many of us felt after our family was divided and the pain Grant felt and tried to hide and yet had to speak about when we would visit. I remember a good man and will miss him. RIP Uncle "Pill". You have earned it.

I worked with Grant at Citation Homes and will always remember his smile. I remember one time when my car was in the repair shop he let me use one of his. So kind of him to trust me. A gentle soul with a huge heart! Your family is in my prayers. Jill (Arneson) Droegmiller, Milford.

Uncle "Pill" reminded me so much of my dad; Harlan. Their wavy hair, big hands, their smiles that could be a bit cockeyed, and their ability to call a spade a spade. I know they are up there visiting and enjoying each other's company and probably having a beer and telling jokes. If it thunders this weekend, you know they a talking politics or religion! The Lord has two gentle souls with him now. Heaven will never be the same.

When my brothers and I were growing up, we lived a block from the Franker house. Steve was my age, but sometimes my older brother would join us in the Franker yard for a game of football. Tom Hedges lived two doors down from Steve and would come and play, too. I remember Grant coming home from work, and at least 4 little boys would try to tackle him, but Grant was so strong, he just dragged us along like wet noodles. We'd be hanging on to his legs, but he just kept moving forward. Great guy that loved kids; not just his own, but also all the neighborhood kids as well.
