Obituary of Dale Olson
Dale Olson, age 101, of Milford, passed away May 1, 2013 at the Milford Nursing Center.
Service: 1:30 pm Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Union Memorial Church in Milford, Iowa.
Visitation: after 4 pm Friday, May 3, 2013 with the family present from 5-7 pm at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Milford.
Interment: Okoboji Cemetery, Arnolds Park, Iowa
Dale Rute Olson was born at Viola Center in Audubon County, Iowa on May 23, 1911 to Frank and Laura (Rute) Olson. He lived with his parents and brother, Nile Olson. In March 1917, the family moved to Dickinson County (one mile north of the old Okoboji School). He attended school at Okoboji through the fourth grade. He then graduated from Arnolds Park in 1931.
In 1921, he moved with his parents east of Milford where he spent seventy-three years on the old Billmire Farm. Dale and his mother purchased it in 1952. He farmed fifty-one years, raising lots of livestock and grain and also sheared sheep for a few years. After retirement, he moved to Milford with his mother.
Dale was an avid outdoorsman. He loved hunting, trapping and winter fishing. He liked to go to Minnesota International Boundary Waters in the fall and was an avid trap shooter for many years. Dale belonged to several sportsmen's clubs and served on the Township AAA committees for several years.
Dale passed away May 1, 2013 at Milford Nursing Center at one hundred and one years of age.
Leaving to mourn his death are his nieces, Dolores (Randy) Hall of Park City, Montana, Christine (Jim) Tatro of Pierz, Minnesota; nephew, Franklin (Charissa) Olson of Brainerd, Minnesota; numerous cousins; many friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Nile F. Olson.
