Obituary of Daniel Reed

A funeral service for Daniel Reed will take place Friday, October 24, 2014 at Crosswinds Evangelical Church in Spirit Lake at 10:30 A.M. Interment will be at Lakeview Cemetery, Spirit Lake. Visitation will begin at 9:30 A.M. at the church. Daniel Lee Reed was born August 14, 1950 in Billings, Montana to Howard and Irene (Caviness) Reed. Dan grew up in the Spirit Lake area, graduating from Spirit Lake High School in 1968. He entered the U.S. Army September 5, 1968, serving in Germany and Southeast Asia until his honorable discharge on January 26, 1971. During his armed service, Dan won several honors including letters of commendations of outstanding soldier. Dan returned to Spirit Lake and attended Iowa Lakes Community College for two years. He was married to Diane Johnson of Estherville. Dan worked for the Rock Island Railroad and then the Worthington packing plant for several years. He retired from Dollar General earlier this year when the local store closed. Dan passed away in his Spirit Lake home on October 16, 2014 at the age of sixty-four. Left to grieve his passing is his mother, Irene Reed Cuppy of Windom, Minnesota and aunts, cousins and friends. Dan was preceded in death by his father, Howard Reed and his sister Marcia Reed as well as his grandparents. The Reed/Cuppy/Caviness families express their thanks for those who offered comfort and prayers during this time.
