Obituary of Chuck Swanson
A memorial service for Charles "Chuck" Swanson, will be held Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Turner Jenness Funeral Home in Spirit Lake.
Charles Swanson was born October 25, 1930, in Wahpeton, ND, the son of Carl and Julia Swanson. He was raised in Fairmount, ND, attending school and graduating from Fairmount High School. Charles was united in marriage to Evonne Holden on June 9, 1951, in Tenney, Minnesota. The couple lived in Granite Falls, Minnesota, Fairmount, North Dakota, Yankton, South Dakota, Marion, Iowa and LeMars, Iowa, before making their home in Spirit Lake in 1977. They moved to Fergus Falls, Minnesota in 2015.
Chuck worked for Simpson Hatchery in Fairmount and also in Yankton before accepting a position as an animal health sales rep for Gland-O-Lac company. In 1969, Chuck continued his career in animal health with Iowa Vet Supply for several more years. Evonne and Chuck owned and operated the Shamrock Inn, in Spirit Lake, from 1977 until 1986. Chuck was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Spirit Lake, and was also a member of Gideons International and Golden Kiwanis. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, and time spent with his loved ones.
Chuck passed away Sunday, August 19th, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, at eighty seven years of age.
Chuck is survived by his brother, Donald (Jean) Swanson of Brandon, MN, children, David Swanson (Debbie), of Ackley, Iowa, Debra Schipper (Scott) of Shorewood, Minnesota, and Carla Weber (Bill), of Lake Park, Minnesota; 7 grandchildren, 1 great grandchild and four more on the way. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Julia Swanson and his wife, Evonne, who passed away on February 7, 2017.
Chuck was a loving husband, father and grandfather and his deep-rooted Christian faith was evidenced in many ways throughout his life.
